5 Tips Before Driving Cross Country

Summer is just around the corner, so it's time to start planning out your cross country road trip. Here are a few tips to remember before taking off.

1. Maintain at least half-tank of gas at all times
America is HUGE, and the chances of driving through areas with no gas stations are very high. Make sure to always have a half-tank of gas to avoid any issues on the road.

2. Check the Weather and Road Closures Daily
Depending on the time of year, weather can change dramatically within a few hundred miles.

3. Plan your destinations in advance
To avoid wasting time and spending extra money, plan out destinations and lodging before you arrive. Chances are you will spend more money booking last minute or even worse, not finding a room at all.

4. Decide what you really want to see and what you can pass on
It is impossible to get any real impression of a city in just one night and getting breakfast in the morning before hitting the road again. If you want to experience a city, book two nights and spend a full day exploring.

5. Pack a survival kit
Since you can never fully prepare for what could happen when traveling cross-country, it is important to be extra prepared by packing a survival kit for any emergency. Remember AAA can only work if you have cell service. Here are a few items to remember when packing your survival kit:

  • Spare tire, jack, and tire iron
  • Road flares
  • Flashlight
  • Road Atlas
  • Sunglasses
  • Snow Chains
  • A credit card that earns you points for gasoline purchases
  • A digital camera
  • Emergency cash for areas that don't take credit cards
Don't forget to stop by Palmer Dodge and get your car serviced before you leave. Remember, you can never be too prepared when driving your car cross-country. Check us out at http://www.palmerdodgegeorgia.com for more information.
